The Committee for Programming and Oversight deals with issues relating to programming quality, the protection of minors, programming oversight and advertising, the programming and economic future of local broadcasting, accessibility to broadcasting and electronic media, as well as the approval of operators and the allocation of capacities.
The Committee for Plurality and Participation deals with research into the situation of local and regional journalism, the support and advancement of the “Stiftung Vielfalt und Partizipation gGmbH” foundation, and journalism training and continued education.
The Committee for Media Literacy and Community Media handles projects to promote media literacy, the exchange of information with institutions and community media players, and the promotion of community television in North Rhine-Westphalia, among other issues. Establishing a community media platform and teaching/learning radio is a further focus of its work.
The Committee for Media Development and Regulation handles the research of technical developments and their consequences, the convergence of mass communication, the convergent approach to regulation, data protection, the advancement of media oversight throughout Germany, and net neutrality, among other issues.
The Committee for Budget and Finance conducts preliminary discussions relating to the Media Commission’s resolutions for the Media Authority’s budget, financial planning, and funding measures on the basis of the recommendations handed down by the respective committee.
